Harry, perhaps a stand like the ones shown in my Turning for the troops thread is what you are after? I will make a phone call and get the dimensions. Remember that weight is an important consideration to prevent vibration and movement of the stand. I have read an article suggesting sand bags placed on a lower shelf to help anchor the unit in place.

Harry,

LOL LOL..... if you look closely at my bench, it is nothing more than 4 legs and a top Of course I made it longer to accomodate an extension and then I added side panels and doors for storage, but if stripped down, it is still just 4 legs and a top. One word of advice Harry, you need bulk and weight for your bench no matter how you build it and that is what you see on mine. The first time you put a large out of balance chunk of wood on that thing, you will see what I am talking about The "A" frame legs on my design help prevent the bench from walking into another room

Hi Mike

"sand bags " I recall one of the members doing just that, using sand bags to hold the bench down and in place But for the life of me I can't recall who it was, but he did just buy a new lathe....about 30 days ago..I'm sure one of the turners will recall it and post a link to that snapshot..

Guys, I've only just caught up with you're posts concerning the bench, for which the timber is all cut. I have no idea what species the timber is as it, like most of my timber was donated, but it is very heavy. The bench which is evolving as I go along, no drawing, consists of four legs, four lower rails and four top rails plus an inch thick piece of Melamine coated particle board. Four wheels will finish it off. I shall probably fit a backboard with a dust collector port.
Today I returned to the store where I bought all the goodies last Saturday and exchanged the pen kits because they were out of stock of bushes to suit. I also bought a 3/8" spindle gouge, a 1/2" skew chisel and a 1/2" roughing gouge, you guys are determined to send me broke! These tools are CROWN brand, made in Sheffield, England and all my other CROWN tools have proved to be top quality. More to follow in a few days.
