| Registered User Forum King | Does anyone have a three legged cat? Our Pee Wee had an operation two weeks ago to remove an aggressive tumor. It has grown another 2 cm since the operation and the Vet says they must remove his leg. Does this impair the animals quality of life? The Vet says their hind legs give them balance. Our family is of two minds over this, and if it was me I would accept three limbs BUT I was wondering how an animal would deal with it. Thoughts?????? Thanks, off to work. John

| Forum Contributer Supreme Forum King | I haven't seen a three legged cat John but have seen many three legged dogs, all of whom seemed to be happy and doing all the things that dogs do. I think that an important consideration should be the age of the cat, if elderly, it's probably kindest to shed a few tears and say good by. These decisions are always difficult to make, even by the most macho of men.

| Registered User Forum Geek | Hello John, I'm sorry you and the family (and cat) have to go through this. I agree with what Harry has said. It would depend on the cat. I have also seen a few 3 legged dogs that are happy and adjusted to life on 3 legs. ~Julie~ |

| Forum Contributer Supreme Forum King | HI John I do agree with Harry and Juile BUT most animals can get along fine with just 3 legs. ![]() My son has a BLIND cat and that's hard one to see, poor cat, but he like many animal lovers just can put her down...she is now about 3 years old and as blind as a bat.. I have seen a dog with a broken back legs and dragging a kart around for back legs to me that is not kind... So many homeless cats and dogs that need a home.. they do but them down by the 1000 every day...![]() ==========

| Registered User Forum Geek | John, according to a woman who runs one of the local kitten rescue organizations, your cat should do quite well with only 3 legs. Also, check this site for more info on this. http://www.blurtit.com/q906661.html Brian

| Registered User Forum King | I thank everyone for their valued opinions, with a sensitive subject like animals. We have looked at the pros/cons of the operation, ithrough our families eyes, and decided to have the operation. He is 9 years old, healthy, and a buddy to Scott and his friends. It is going to seem a little different at first but every animal we have taken in, made things a little different at first. They are hoping to fit him in Friday or Monday, but are leaning to Friday. He is kept in overnight only, all I can say is, this will be an experience. I will post after we get him home from the vets. Once again "Thanks to all" for their opinion. John

| Forum Moderator Supreme Forum King | Hey John, Before my wife and I married, she had a yard full of cats (about 20) that hung around for the food she would set out. Amoung the group was a 3 legged stray and he got around better than most of the 4 legged ones. He could hold his own against a stray dog or any of the other cats if confronted. Don't worry too much, that kitty will do just fine with 3 legs in due time. Keep us posted on the progress.

| Registered User Forum Geek | John, when I was a teenager, we had a cat that was mauled by a stray dog. Vet had to remove hind leg. That cat recovered fast. And was are fastest cat up a tree when any dogs came through the orchard we lived in.
