  About Me

  • My Shop
Some detailed information about my workshop.
    Power Tools
Bench saw on shopmade stand, 36-37" wood lathe on shopmade stand (the lathe and stand are now sold), shopmade router table (with five routers on shopmade inserts), bandsaw on shopmade stand, scrollsaw on shopmade stand, drillpress on shopmade stand, Delta planer on shopmade stand. Then have a tool stand to take different tools on a base, to include 2d drillpress, metal cutting bandsaw, vise. Then there's the assorted hand power and manual tools - don't feel like listing all of those. Added a power mitre saw. Got very tired of my two sanders that take sheets, so got me a ROS that takes 5" sanding discs - love that thing.
    My Shop
My shop was bought when the last place I work closed, apparently all the suggestions I had put in paid off, because I got probably the largest bonus of the very few that were issued - except to the supervisors and manager, you can bet they got a bonus. I bought the largest shop I could afford, and still buy tools. The shop is 8X12, and it was a case of buy that or probably never get one. And I was right. Got a nice used Shopsmith for a quite low price, and used that for a couple of years. It worked well, but was a pain to change over. Finally figured out how to put stand alone tools in the shop (involved shopmade stands and moving tools, but has worked out well), sold the Shopsmith at a modest profit, and started buying inexpensive, but decent tools, largely from Harbor Freight. That was in possibly 1997-1998. The HF benchsaw still works well, as does the HF lathe (now sold), drill press, and a number of hand power tools. My Black & Decker circular saw I got in probably 1975-76 still works fine. My B&D sabre saw I got at the same time died for good about 3-4 years ago.

Favorite router is the one I'm using at the time and it runs.
    Woodworking Experience (Years)
Been fiddling with wood since probably about 7 yo, and I was born in 1940, you do the math.
    First Name
    United States
  • Signature
NC via the Army in 1979; retired 1981, just east of Raleigh ever since.
Remember, when I tell how I do something, that does not mean I recommend you do it my way. Different backgrounds, experiences; what works for me, may not for you.
