Default Making of my first free hand sign

Well folks I know it's taken a while mainly due to the fact that the slab of Sheoak was not flat or of equal thickness so that when I started routing with the skis, the depth of cut varied, requiring a lot of extra work to correct. The problem stemmed from the fact that I had never worked with a slab before so it didn't occur to me to check it as I normally would a board, and bear in mind that I was GIVEN it, I could hardly complain!

I notice that the order of the shots has become jumbled as usual, I do wish that Mark could solve this problem, meanwhile the shots are numbered. Now onto the final stages.
Despite seeking finishing advice from members and Michael Dresdner, I, possibly foolishly, went my own way and used fibre glass resin, hoping that it would withstand our harsh summers, only time will tell! At this point in time I'm giving serious thought to sanding the letters back to the wood and painting them with the matt black paint which would be easy to recoat whenever necessary. Thanks for you're input and patience.

Harry, that is most impressive. It's a fine looking sign and I am very impressed with the outcome and the amount of free handing you did. BRAVO!

Great looking first time sign Harry. The Ferguson's should be proud of it. But come on, only 20 pictures???????LOL

Very nice Harry

I like the look of the bark on the sign...that's a neat way to keep the sign looking good for a long time , I have a gal. or two of that stuff in the shop and will give it a try out for the next out door project..

Harry I don't see the holes to mount it , how are you going to mount it ?

To a pole, by chains, bolts, ?

Well Harry, despite your minor problems, you sure came out on top with that project. That is a magnificent work of art to say the least. You did a fine job and probably have a very swollen head about now and that is okay because it is well deserved

Great work Harry Now it's my turn to come for a few lessons. The owner will be proud of it or are you going to change your name so that you can keep it for yourself.
