Questions for those having problems being logged off:
What browser and version are you using?
What anti-virus software?
What firewall software?
Are you using a router with a mechanical firewall?
What connection speed?
Do you connect through AOL?
Do you have additional tool bars such as google or yahoo running?

This information may generate a clue to the problem.

Here is mine. Hope this covers most everything:

Win 2K Pro, Vers. 5.00.2195 (6) SP4
AMD 2800 Processor (2) 1 GB RAM (2)
Internet Explorer Vers. 6.0.2800.1106 SP1 (6)
AVG Free A/V 7.5 Build (2*) Zone Alarm Free (4)
DI 524 Router (1) (D-Link Non-wireless - 4 years)
DSL Connection
AOL - NO
Google Tool Bar
(The number in parens are the years in use.)

The only change in my computer in the past year has been an AVG Free Upgrade from 7.1 top 7.5 Build two weeks ago. * = Build 7.1/7.5 combined.

I can trace said Forum problem back at least three to four months, possibly six months max.
I can be on eBay for hours (in a 'reply' mode), a Yahoo chat room, or a couple other interactive websites with no problem. As mentioned I can browse Router Forums unlimited without problems. Only during/having been in a 'Reply' mode for 'about' (no more than) ten minutes, I am no longer logged in.
Thanks, Lou

Lou, one thing to try is upgrading your IE to version 7. It may not fix the problem but it cant hurt to be running the latest version. I am running it and like the new features.

I looked into updating to IE 7 Mike, however Microsoft does not offer that option to Windows 2000, most likely because they now discontinue support after five years.
I shall be changing browsers and op systems in the very near future.

Hi Lou

Just my 2 cents

Download FireFox and put IE on the back burner and keep win2k, win2k is XP striped down XP plus you can install it on more than one machine ( I didn't say that did I ) unlike XP .
Win2k is a very high security OS unlike XP, and many many companys use it .
Once you learn how to tweak win2k it will fly, here's a link that will help you do that.

I have to disagree BJ. I took all the Microsoft tech classes they offered on Win 2K and suggest making the move to XP. There is much better driver support for the average person who doesn't want to spend all their time tweaking. There is also the compatability issues on the web. Combined with the lack of support it is much easier to migrate. Vista is just around the corner and the average user is better off updating. I know there is nothing wrong with using older software when you know it inside out. But the average user is not in that boat.

For what it is worth, I run XP and IE and have never experienced any of these problems to date.

Just some more and my 2 1/2 cents

I use XP on 3 of my machines but to me WIndows is like Gen'L.Motors ..
Windows is the base(GM) and win2k or XP is the engine, you can get one with all the bells/buttons and whistles and just runs it in auto so to speak, the XP model will have all you need and will run great as long as you don't play with it by adding software (over size tires, etc.) now for win2k, it's like a 4 x 4 with a 4 speed trans. it will haul just about anything you want to.
And because both can run in the fat32 or NTFS (reg.gas/high test) as long you don't buy cheap gas they will run a long time.

I'm from the old school I like something I can work on without buying tons of new equipment and software to change the spark plugs or to find out if I need to.

The new MS OS Vista, is a joke and will take years to get all the bugs out of it.

Not to say anything about most of your old software/hardware is junk with it.

Just my 2 cents from a old computer geek.
