Check twice! is on a distinguished road

My passion is to create, and I have been doing this both in the creative foods I cook as a chef, to the wood products I produce with a pride that, “I did the best I can”.

On the 12th, of January I slipped off a bench in my shop and fell 28 inches, fracturing my heel. I have been laid up since and I am slowly getting back to normal.

I have never been laid up in the 60 years of my life. I felt lost and then I found the forums, I had never had the pleasure of taking the time to chat, learn, give my personal experiences or an opinion on woodworking. This opened up a whole new world to me.

I “thought” I had a good grip on woodworking skills, until I listened to some of the experiences the people on this forum have had and the unique ways they solved and over came both logistical and physical issues.

The crafts that each of you, create and show are built with pride and care in, “I did the best I can”.

I am proud to be part of this community and thank the moderators and sponsors for this site. It has filled the last 4 months with a lot of pleasure. I will continue to be part of this forum as I start to create again! ☺ ☺ ☺

Through the eyes of John!

Thanks

John;
I retired 4 years ago and bought a router. I wanted to learn to use it as well as sharpen my skills with my other tools. I used to build and race RC boats, so I had a start with the woodworking hobby.

After doing a search for woodworking I found this site. As you have found, there is a wealth of experience here, and I have learned more than I ever thought I would. I have learned enough that I now feel confident in tackling my latest project, a tool chest. It is my first "cabinet grade" project.
This is truly the place to be.

Hi John,

I wholeheartedly agree with you that this is a most valuable asset to all of us. The best part is that no matter what our skills, we all have a perspective. Each one of our perspectives is correct for us and with some good fortune it may also be good for someone else.

On this site (I've only been doing woodworking a couple years) I've had the pleasure of solutions I could never have thought of and I've become somewhat comfortable with all my tools. That is what this forum has meant to me in a practical term.

On the other front, it has meant that I have met (figuratively speaking) many new friends (at least from my point of view) and you can't put a cost on that, that's for sure.

I love and appreciate all the perspectives that I've seen so far on this site, though I might not use every perspective but it does give a person food for thought and ideas on how to do things differently and often a better way.

Thanks for listening to the ramble.....

Ed......:-)

Thanks for your kind comments.

I am going to the shop today and do the re-sawing I had planned for the 12 January,
I will feel great today, up to my ears in saw dust, the better half telling me "keep that mess in the shop", ....music to my ears.

I remember somewhere in my vows, (thirty something year ago) I think when she was asked the question, "do you take this man" I quickly added "and my workshop"
I think I remember that, if not, what was I thinking at the time.

Finishing my coffee and heading to the shop. My removable cast and all!

Have a bright day, ......sunny and high of 17 in Nova Scotia, open the garage door day!
