| Registered User Forum Fanatic | Well, you may remember I bought a delta 9" bandsaw, the $100 disposable jobbie. well... suprise suprise, it did not seem to do that well out the box. I'd never setup a saw before and all the suggestions here were great, as you'll see in the pictures. First off, the motor drive belt was rubbing against the lower wheel! the motor needed to be "kicked" over a touch, so I used a folded piece of brown paper, and kept folding until I got the belt running in the ceter of the drive motor and wheel. I junked the 1/8th blade that came with it, in favour of a 3/8th blade, still delta blade. Spent best part of a hour setting up the blocks and the bearings, leveled the table and locked everything down. Made a rough and ready fence from a beaten up push stick and G clamped it down, grabbed a piece of scrap from the junk bin and had it. First rip is shown below with measurments as taken with a digital vernier. I'm extremely pleased! I never in my wildest thoughts, imagined the disposable wonder horse would rip this well! I don't have a power thicknesser, but given the accuracy of this rip(I know it's only in soft wood) I could get close and hand plane the rest without taking a week off work ![]() So far the learning curve is pretty steep on all these power tools, but little by little it's starting to get easier to actually do what I want without a fight ![]() |
