A few days ago a member asked how to rout a monogram on a box lid. There were several suggestions including one from myself. Bj went to the trouble of actually demonstrating his suggestion so how could I not do the same. My 75 year old hands would not have been capable of freehand routing without the mechanical advantage afforded by the skis. This is not a box lid but the centre routed from a solid picture frame now with my wife's initial.

The best advice that I can give a newcomer to routing is, learn to use the router mounted, this can be as simple as a board held in a vice, with the router firmly attached and a simple fence held with clamps, and when he/she feels competant and confident in it's use and is familiar with all aspects of safety, THEN, and only then proceed to learn how to use the router hand held. This is MY opinion, and may or may not coincide with that of the forum management, but is based on a lifetime of woodworking.

Nice work Harry.

I remember once trying to put my hands where my thoughts were ... I got slapped for my troubles.

Hi Harry

Very nice job ... you know for a old guy you do some nice work, I do see a error or two but it sure looks great for a router bit job..

You know I should take off the bikini when I show the end of the job, but you do it so well Harry I just like to leave it on so others can see what it looks like b/4 the finish job.. I have always been a bit shy see below... it can be done in so many ways,,,proud,,, that way you don't need to mill the stock behind the letters...just paint the parts ,drop them in to place and glue in place..then with a little clear coat and it's done..

Marlene has just reminded me that I also got slapped! (before we started courting, that is the only time that I have actually seen coloured stars)

Harry, I do not mean to come across as dense, please explain how this can be a picture frame with the initial in the center? I think this needs to be made into a box lid.

"I do see an error or two"

Bj, if handicrafts were made perfect, people would assume that they were machine made and not worth much so I make sure that there are small errors in all my work. This at least is the best excuse that I can think of at the moment!

Thank you George for coming in there, I was having difficulty finding suitable words so as not to upset Mike when I saw what you had posted.

Hi Harry

It's hard to see them unless you see it side by side.. but it's still a great job round corners and all.
