Sort Members by City or Zip

It would be neat to be able to sort the member list by City, or zip code. I might have neighbors that are into woodworking but I have no way of finding this out.

Robert, I agree with you. In fact I had recently been thinking along those lines. There are members who do want privacy and might choose to not participate.
I think your idea deserves exploration.

"Teach your children what we have taught ours, that the earth is our mother. Whatever befalls the earth befalls the sons of the earth. The earth does not belong to man; man belongs to the earth. Man did not weave the web of life; he is merely a strand in it. We do not inherit the earth from our ancestors; we borrow it from our children."
-attributed to Chief Seattle of the Native American Suquamish Tribe

I'm with You! I would like to know where people are. I think that many are uneasy as to what happens if they have that? I feel that a new member needs to add a name, and a location before getting on line.

I've thought about that and, as it's been posted before, that might turn people away (I'm not sure if that would be good, or bad - another topic) but for the ones that do choose to add a location, be it state, city, or postal code, it would be nice to be able to sort the member list accordingly.

The best way to look for local members is to watch the introductions. Send a PM introducing yourself and invite contact. This is how I found about 20 Detroit Metro area members.

Whoa hold your horses there big guy...not so fast. I am not too interested in sharing that much information, and if it were required before I could participate I would have long since moved on. I prefer to select who gets that knowledge, additionally I feel it ought to be purely on a choose to/choose not to participate basis.

Hi:

One suggestion that I would like to make: Since we have members here from around the globe, we should use a global reference maybe? Say longitude and latitude?

Jack? You provided a name and location. We dont want specifics, no salesman will call. I doubt if anybody will be located by a first name and a state. Nobody is required to have any contact with other forum members, but that is the fun part. Our Detroit area "Sawdust Saturdays" were a blast. The exchange of ideas is priceless.

Paranoia rules OK?

I don't care if you post my postcode. There are only 7 houses in my hamlet and everyone knows me. In fact half the county seems to know me. I collected a package from the post office 5 miles away this week. There was a new girl there. Not only did she greet me in English, but she had the package out before I'd opened my mouth. I'd never seen her before. Istria is like that. I can leave my front door unlocked and my car unlocked.

Anyone want to buy a house ? :-)

Cheers

Peter

Hey mike, and everyone else, Yes, I did provide that information, BUT, it's more or less generic. Once I put my zip code in, anonymity is out the window. I use my full name, it's who I am.

No salesman will call? Really? Just yesterday or maybe the day before, I got a sales email from some guy who just signed up here at this forum to promote his new invention. (At last count he had 4 posts, ALL self promotion). I checked his profile, and then I checked my profile page and was relieved to see that while he can contact me by email, my address is never displayed for him. So that was my FIRST sales call and I didn't even put my zip code in yet!

Peter, I too keep my doors unlocked. I like it that way, and I want to keep it that way!
