| Registered User | I am aware that as the size of the router bit increases, the speed of the router should be reduced. I don't have a variable speed router and was wondering if I could simply plug the router into an outlet that was connected to a reostat. Is it possible that this could damage the router. Of course, the other disadvantage is that one can only guess at the speed, although one could set the speed to give the optimal results. Any advice? Thanks, Dean |

| Registered User Forum Fanatic | My trusty old Swiss made Perles router has a fixed speed as it was made before variable speeds became standard so I dont use any bits larger than a chamfer bit or a biscuit cutter bit and always take small cuts until I get to the required depth. Roll on the day when I get a DeWalt 625 for use in my router table.
