Default Router backout danger
Report Post Report This Post!

I have a PorterCable 690 router. It mounts below the table (also PorterCable) in a base that allows height adjustment by rotation. There is a large wing bolt to secure the router after adjusting the height. Despite attempts to tighten it firmly, I am having consistent problems with it backing out. Sometimes the result is that the height of the cut is lower, but once it fell out of the table and destroyed a bit. I was lucky that was all. Is this common, or is there somehting wrong with my mount?

Hi Guys

I have many of the PC 690 routers and HAD the same errors,,, PC have redone the clamp system on the PC routers,, that said ,,, it's hard to get them tight with the small wing they come with , if you rework the wing nut by putting a piece of hardwood over the wing nut that will take care of the error and you can get it tight or unscrew easy.

It's just some hardwood that's 1/2" x 1" x 1 1/2" with a mortis slot to put over the stock wing nut...then glued in place with super glue..

If you want to see a snapshot of it just ask and I will post a snapshot of it..

I have 690 also. I mounted it to a JessEM (?) lift. Once while using a large panel bit it dropped down, fortunately I caught it before the router completely fell out of the housing. I tightened the lock nut with a lock washer and now no problem.
