Default External speed adjusting
Report Post Report This Post!

Hi

My Hitachi M12V2 is soon to be mounted in a WoodPecker Unilift in my new router table. Combined with an external power switch and a Xtreme Xtension for above the table bit changes I will be able to almost operate the router 'outside the box'.

But only almost since I still have to open the router table door and fumble my way in when I want to adjust the router speed. Anyone tried to wire their speedadjuster to the 'surface' of their table?

Default Speed control

I use an external router speed control. Plug it in and plug router into it. Usually keep the switch in "full" setting. Although it really comes in handy when using larger bits.

Work safe: Remember the only 'SAFE' power tool in the shop, is the one with the plug pulled out of the socket!

Remember that soft start routers can not be used with external speed controllers; one or the other will burn out.

HI meldgaard

" Anyone tried to wire their speedadjuster to the 'surface' of their table?"

I have not done that but it would be a easy job, just remove it from the router and pickup a plastic box from Radio Shack and mount it to the router table side...

I don't think I would hard wire it in to place I would use plugs, and maybe just order that part from Hitachi then you could unplug the one that's built in and just plug in the remote one..then you could still use the big router for the big hand router jobs,, but I'm sure you will kiss off any warr.from the fac. if you run into any errors doing that.

But Who knows you may just come up with a new device that others may want also..

I don't think mounting a speed control to the surface of the table is a good idea. It's bound to be in the way. Mounted to the side of the table would be a better place.

Hi Mike

Of course you are right! Blame it on my poor english - I meant outside and visualized it sitting next to/ or kind of built together with the external "no volt release switch"

Hi Meldgaard: I've just taken a look at the parts blowup of the M12V. There is another version the M12S. Compare the parts diagrams for the two routers and you'll see that the very top of the router is the difference between the two. It might be a simple fix but explore further before sticking your neck out.

M12SA parts breakdown

http://www.hitachi.us/Apps/hitachico...rTools/&nId=iD

M12V is still in their supported inventory. Find the parts and manual for it at Hitachi.us or your local version.

At this point, I'd call Customer Support at Hitachi and ask them how to do what you want. They're usually pretty helpful.

Hope this helps.

I'm very happy to know about the external controllers may cause a router to burn out. I have a Poter-Cable 7518 and I would be really upset if I would lose it.
