T Slot

Hi,

I have two oak bedroom dressers and would like to learn how to produce the drawerfront profile they have. I want to build a hamper/bench for the foot of the bed and use some salvaged waterbed drawerfronts. I know with all the experience in this forum you guys can put me on the path to the right bits and procedures. Thanks in advance to all.

Hello T Slot,

I believe those slots are created with a finger pull bit for drawer fronts. And the Groove above it is created with a V Groove bit. The edges are created with a round over bit from the best I can tell. I am looking at the Oak desk I have and the only thing it does not have is the V Groove on it. You can experiment with some scrap wood to get the look you want.

Hi,

I think GoonMan is right about the finger pull but from the shape of the cut it looks like it came in on an angle.... that might be tricky to reproduce.

The cut above it lookis like a radius groving bit/plunge roundover bit.

It sounds like the first order of business is to make a sign to hang over the shop door so it don't get confused with a garage..... No car has seen the inside of my garage.... I mean shop since 1996.......

MLCS has a drawer front bit in their catalouge that I had received recently.

I am still drooling over the finds in it and wishing I had the money to buy some of the bits there or a new table. LOL

Right now looking for some Aluminum or Phenolic to make a plate for my router table.

I looked very closely at the third pic to see if it had been constructed out of two pieces. In my opinion there is NOT a cutter available for insertion in the router to give you the finger pull. It can be produced as I said in two pieces. Yhis is only my opinion and I would be interested in what others have to say

Tom is right.... I think..... Draw pulls are done with the piece vertical at about a 12-15 deg back angle. But if one had a router that could be tilted it could be done that way too. I tried to see the two pieces yesterday but I didn't see it... Tom has better eyes then I do.

Hi T Slot: It looks like the drawer fronts were made with a drawer finger pull bit, and a V groove bit. The finger pull bit seems to have been putin at an angle. It is possible to cut an angled piece of wood on a table saw and use it fastened to the router table
so that your work will be cut at that angle.
