Using Bob's Box Joint / Dovetail Jig

I have been salivating over the Oak Park jigs for making Box Joints and Dovetails. I want to know if anyone has used them on another type of table? I have a Rockler table that I like very much. The Oak Park jig looks very easy to use. Do I need to drill holes in the tabletop? Any experience is appreciated. -Derek

The box joint jigs are very good,but the dovetails that can be made are not for putting two boards together at a 90 degree angle(such as a drawer).

I may have been unclear. In the OakPark catalogue, the plastic jigs are pre-drilled to fit their table. Would it be worth my effort to buy those jigs and retrofit my table? -Derek

I have a set of the spacer fences,1/4-3/8-1/2, they are very good for making box joints and what they call a combination joint. I didn't drill holes in my table,have always used clamps, but the holes would probably be better.With a little practice they are easy to use and get good box joints. My only suggestion would be to go to Enco or another industrial supplier and purchase some solid carbide spiral end mills. They cut beautifully and cost less than router bits.

Please check speed ratings on any bit, cutter or end mill you might chuck up in your router. Remember, most milling machines are designed with speeds under 5000 rpm, where routers run 10-20,000 rpm. I'd hate to hear about anyone hurting themselves to save $10.
