Jen, normally you would make a pattern out of Masonite(hardboard) that is 1/4" thick and attach it with double sided carpet tape. Rough cut your wood to be close to the pattern. Use a bit that has a roller bearing on it to follow the pattern and make your final shape. This method will require very little sanding.

Just to add to Mikes post.
A pattern (template) is the best way to make more than one item of the same pattern.
Here's a list of bits that you can use to do this with.
From: http://www.grizzly.com
Super Duty bits (Pattern bits ) C1306z,C1308z,C1309z,C1310z
Super Duty bits (Shear Cuts bits) C1352z,1354z
Ind.Quality bits (Pattern bits ) C1306,C1307,C1308,C1309,C1310
Ind.Quality bits (Shear Cuts bits) C1353,C1354

The Shear bits will give you a clean cut "require very little sanding" like Mike said.
Once you make a template you can use it over and over to make as many as you need.
You can also use SMALL nails to hold the template to the new blank, the double sided tape is not cheap and nails are but you must take care not to drive them to deep.
You can also use a brass guide in the router base plate when you are cutting thick stock. (3/4 " or more ) and using a template (Pattern) use a 1/2" router bit and a brass guide.
see Grizzly items H3134 and C1012, and C1699
at http://www.grizzly.com

Hope this helps

There will be about 1/2 inch curve to the outside of the leg and straight cut on inside of leg

That bearing follows the pattern that you want to duplicate. Only the edge of the cutter will shape the stock. In one of your other requests, the guys responded with details on how to make a pattern or jig. If you can get Bob and Rick's show on PBS- Router Workshop, it will become clear. -Derek
