I bought the Bench Dog Protop Contractor router table a year ago. So far I like it alot. Didn't know that Bob and Ricks table was avaiable for purchase until recently. Pretty cool. Well I am happy with the Benchdog, built from baltic birch except the top is laminated MDF instead of Laminated baltic birch. I am also using a new DW 625 router on it which I also like alot except for it is kind of a pain for bit changes but not bad. I just found on the website how to remove the springs. Will have to do that. I already replaced the knurled knob with the long handle knob from Dewalt.

Anybody using this combination, and if so are you using the Oakpart box joint jig with it? Work ok?

Corey, the box joint jig requires two holes to be drilled in your table top to secure it. It will work fine with your table. I installed one on a workbench over a Rousseau plate and it worked like a champ. You will be very pleased with the results.

Hi Corey and welcome to the Router Forums.

Corey is a good friend of mine and a very talented woodworker. He and I were discussing this question the other night and I explained that the box joint jig would most likely work with his benchdog table. I see that Mike has already confirmed that for him and I hope someone can maybe give Corey a picture and/or details of exactly how and where to drill the holes.

Hi Corey

No real rule where to drill the holes so to say.
The easy way to get this done is to chuck up the right bit for the right jig,let say 1/4" once you have the 1/4" jig on the router table and over the 1/4" bit ,turn the jig to the right or the left on your table, my table top is bigger than the Oak-Park one so I have the jig running the same way the fence is, now take the 1/4" brass bar and set it next to the track/rail on the left side of the jig and the bit, once you have it set in place move the jig until the brass can just pass the bit and the side rail of the jig, now clamp the jig down to the table top, once you it clamped in place look under the top to make sure when you drill the two holes you are ok to do that without dilling a hole in the wrong spot, now check the brass bar and the jig one more time,if you are 100% sure it's set right drill a 1/4" hole in the top,once you have the hole in the top remove the clamps and drop in the flat hd. screws you got with the jig and lock it down.
If you got all 3 of the jigs now the time to check them also,chuck up the 3/8" bit and do the same thing and the same thing for the 1/2".
All the jigs have the same hole pat. for the holes.
Now for the 3/8" jig, this one can be used for many things like the dovetails joints/case work,to put in a T & G joint, but it needs to be drilled out just a bit so it can be set up right for the dovetail setup.
I drilled my jig (3/8 jig) and NOT the table hole, but don't until you want to use the jig for the dovetail setup.

Thanks Bj. I do not yet have the jig set yet but I have that on my list. Does anybody use a 2 flute straight bit in these instead of the spiral bit? I have a bunch of straights I can use and is the cut that much better. The 3/8 and 1/2 spirals are pricey as heck!

Yes, you can use the 2 flute straight bit(s) but they have a hard time in hard wood and when you cut a slot 3/4" deep or deeper.
What do you call pricey ?, I get mind from Grizzly and sommerfeldtools,com and MLCS here are some of the prices on them..

3/8" the one you will use the most,would be 29.oo bucks
