I'm a native Californian and don't know what I am when it comes to the North / South thing... I always thought Yanks was a way to call all of us in the USA. Having not lived back there, other than visiting / passing through, is the war really over... sounds like there may still be a little anger present... (?)

Just curious... what would you like to be referred to as?

Hey Cowboy?

Just don't call you late for dinner... right?

Anger? No -- takes a LOT to get me angry.
Life's too short.
Guess its like someone once said about the Blues -
If someone has to explain it to you -- you'll never understand.
It's mostly just a pride in heritage kinda thing.
(and yes - that includes acknowledging the bad as well as the good)

And Southerner's aren't alone in it.
I understand a lot of New Yorkers feel that way about their state -
- or even their neighborhood.
I KNOW Texans do --

And yes -- you are right -- the term Yankee or Yank was/is used to refer to our nation as a whole -- and in THAT context -- I am VERY PROUD to be called a Yank.

Anyway -- didn't mean to get so far off topic.
LOVE those benches -
Simple -
Your workshop and mine have much in common
But I suspect your skill level is far superior.

I'm a YANK and DAM proud to be called one

The USA is a GREAT country and many people have put there life on the line for that one word.
I guess I will get off the soap box now but I could go on and on what the USA is for many.many people in the world. ( the one that comes to mind, is FREE )

You maybe a red neck, good old boy, etc. but the bottom line is your a YANK.

Ditto and AMEN to everything Bobj said.

For the record I was not disagreeing with ANYONE -
And I didn't take anyone to be disagreeing with me.

To be honest -- I was more than anything else - poking fun at MYSELF and some of my fellow Southerners. That's what I get for trying to be humorous before coffee

Yes - I am proud of my unique heritage -- as I hope everyone else is of theirs - It's those differences blending and working together (like the rock and the sand and the water and the cement in the concrete pads I am pouring today) that make this such a unique and wonderful country.
We let them divide us at our peril.

God bless the USA!!!!
