| Registered User New Member | O.K. I've got a question. I've been told that the correct workbench height should be the same as the "height of your palms placed flat at your side". Does this hold true for a router table also. Or is somewhere between 34" and 36" close enough ? Thanks in advance for your help. Don S. |

| Marine Engineer Forum King | Don, What kind of work are you going to do? Bigger pieces work better at lower heights, more detailed work I like to do with the bench higher. Start with just a top, and see what heights are most comfortable to you.

| Registered User New Member | I don't have an exact answer but, the rule of thumb that I have been told is what hight are you comfortable with. Will you be able to work at the table for an extended bit of time without a backache or some other indication it is too short or to deep for your reach. So make it so you are comfortable with it. I don't believe there are any rules only guidelines for this. Have fun Roger |

| Retired Moderator Supreme Forum King | The Router Workshop set up on the base etc. is designed at 40" I took that measurement and was to make mine at 41 inches as the perfect height for me. Forgot about the 3/4 caster blocks so it turned out 41 3/4 but it's still works for me. Take your work bench and build up something to the level you are thinking about and see how it works. Corey

| Forum Contributer Supreme Forum King | Hi Don Just my 2 cents... ![]() If you are 5' 2" or 6' 8" it comes down to how tall you are ![]() You maybe 5" 10" the norm for most males but the 36" tall router table may not be the right size for you... The best way I have found is to reach over your work bench and pickup a item from the far side, without putting a hurt on the back side of your body. =============== Quote:

| Registered User New Member | Thanks guys for your responses. As I'm 5'10" I think I'll go with about 35"-36" and see how well that works... Thanks again Don S. |

| Registered User Forum Geek | Don, I dont know how large your shop is. But if and when I build my next table, I will size it so it can be an extension of something else when not in use. Such as an outfeed table for my tablesaw.

| Registered User Forum Fanatic | I am a special case because I must sit at my router table. The router table I am building will have the work surface at 27 inches high for able-mounted routering. I am considering a second work table with the sork surface at about 25 inches for hand-held routering. I am 5'10" |
