| Forum Contributer Supreme Forum King | Hi Jigmaker, I have a CMT extension made in Italy, without doubt as good as they come but the router just does not behave the same when using it. I wouldn't even consider using it in the table and have only used it a couple of times when plunge routing extra deep as per the box that I did a photo-shoot on routing a box from solid wood which is somewhere in my gallery.

| Forum Contributer Supreme Forum King | Hi Harry I need to disagree with you on this one SORRY ![]() I have both ( 1/4" and the 1/2" extension from MLCS ) and they work great in the router table ,I have not used them in the plunge router and I don't think I would but it the table they are great.. The one I like best is the 1/4" one it's not as hvy.made (less mass) and not as big as the 1/2" one but when you need just a little bit more of the 1/4" bits to come up in the router table they can do that job just fine, many will try and get the job done by puling the bit up out of the router collet and that's not the safe way to use any 1/4" bit or any other router bits. http://www.mlcswoodworking.com/shops...er_collet.html "It's fine to disagree with other members as long as you respect their opinions." | Forum Contributer Supreme Forum King | I can see where the lower mass of a 1/4" one will behave differently to the larger mass of a 1/2" one, but as you say, to each his own. I remember mentioning in a much earlier post that my 3hp Makita was very noisy with the extension and that I doubted that I would use it again, however I have used it just once more with the same result. This forum would become very dull if we all agreed with each other all the time!

| Registered User Jr. Member | Hey thanks for he heads up on the extension, i was wondering how good they performed. sometimes it's best to leave things alone and do it the hard way, i'm used to reaching under the table to change bits or removing the router and plate from the table. | Forum Contributer Supreme Forum King | Jigmaker, at first glance it looks almost impossible to change a cutter from underneath my cast iron table, the top does in fact lift to about 45deg. and locks in that position, that would suit the likes of Mike and Bj who are 6'4" and as strong as oxes but I'm about 5'2" and 73 years old so lifting is out, however there is a gap of about 1/2" between the top and it's stand and I can peer through this slot and change cutters in what Bj would call a heart beat.
