| Forum Moderator Supreme Forum King | Hi Steve, When I made my first router table/cabinet, I used the black cheapo's from the borg and could barely move the the thing around the shop (see pic). I since got smart and replaced every caster in my shop with the red one's from Hartvilletool and have never been happier. I used the 3" bolt on model with swivel and locks on all 4 wheels for each of my shop tools(see pic). They just glide along anywhere I want them to go now with no effort and when I lock them down the do stay locked. Here is a lin to the one's I recommend at Hartville http://www.hartvilletool.com/product/11883

A friend actually told me about the rear mounted casters (or wheels) I have yet to try it but it's on my(evergrowing) list of things to do. He showed me a mitersaw stand he made with just 2 wheels and it was pretty easy to move around. He put a handle on it, a simple pipe that slid in and out to give more leverage when he wanted to move it. Brian

Locking the casters prevents them from rolling -- but not from swiveling. JUST my experience -- 'your mileage may vary' The benefit to me of wheels or fixed casters is there is no lateral movement - they only roll forward and back - and putting weight on the two front or rear legs prevents that. | |
