Question Need Help Identifying Router

I just spent an afternoon with my grandfather having him teach me how to use a router (in a table). I found myself really liking his router, however it's old enough the type number is scratched off. So I'm hoping you can help me identify it. He forgot how long ago he bought it.

The router is older, Craftsman (or B&D), blue, the handles are straight down (not curved or not ball handles), and (most importantly) it has a knob on the side that raises or lowers the bit. He had it attached to a removable table insert, so i couldn't see much more than that.

Now, the reason I ask is that it was a simple design, worked wonderfully, and was convienent to raise and lower the bit (unlike my current one). So I'm curious as to the model and whether I can find something similar today.

Perhaps someone on here might know of it or can point me in the right direction to find something similar today.

Many thanks!
Alec (who sees how addictive routing can be )

Never heard that before Bj, very interesting. Thanks, sounds and looks like this is the one Alec is looking for.

Alec, some great routers out there now that are as easy as that one is to use! Check out the new Craftsman combo that is on sale for 89.00 and you get a fixed base and plunge base with it.

That's very close! His had a blue top, but other than that it's close. See...I knew someone would know what this was. Dang, you guys are good.

I'll have to make sure and look at the B&D. At first I heard mixed opinions of the B&D line but after using it I was quite impressed.

Hi Alec

The price is right 1.oo dollar plus a shipping and you can have just about what you want... 0 bids so far , up for grabs 23th...small note, the older ones can only take on 1/4" shank bits the norm ... that can be a big drag in a router table....

Good Luck
