There are some deals available on a Freud FT2200E 3/14 HP Router making it just under $28 less than the Hitachi M12V2 from Amazon. The router would be mounted to a Bosch router table. Is the Hitachi that much better than the Freud for use with a table to justify the price difference? Thanks for the feedback in advance.

If so
I have both and I like the Freud over the Hitachi I have both mounted in a router table....but the Freud can be pop out of the table and be used as a plunge router..the springs on the Hitachi have been removed...no need to do that on the Freud because it's so easy to move it up or down in the router table with the knob under the table top.

Thanks for the reply. I did mean Hitachi. I caught the error after posting and corrected it. Your comment on the Freud Knob is interesting. I have been thinking of also purchasing the Router Razer for above table adjustments but your comment sounds like it may be no big deal to adjust the hieght with the Freud from under the table. Do you find that to be the case thus not really making it worthwhile to spend the extra on the Razer?

I can get the Freud for $125 delivered if I pull the trigger on the purchase before the free shipping expires on the 31st. I don't have a 3 1/4 Hp router and this seemed to be a very good opportunity to get one at a good price.

I have the Razer on the Hitachi and it's a great help on the router table, I got the router from Bob N. ( a forum member) and it was on the router when I got it and said OK I will use it.. I didn't think I would like it but I do alot it's bit high in price ( 80.00 bucks for some rods and nuts) I didn't think I would put out 80 bucks for it b/4 I had one but if it went down I would put the money out to replace it,, it works very well with one little crank you can move the router up or down quick...so many times you just need to move the bit up or down just a small bit and it works great for that job..with out the need to get the router out of the table or to get on your knees and play with the router under the table top...BUT the draw back it's a router just for the router table.

I would say you don't need to remove the springs from the router and it will work just fine..

It seems to me that removing & replaceing the springs would be troublesome if you needed to do it often. Or am I missing something here?

Hi Jim

Once they have been removed that's it the norm...now they go into a plastic bag and back in the box the router came in for safe keeping..

You only do it once, they are removed so you can move the router easy when the router is upside down in the router table, all you need to do is lift the weight of the router and not fight the springs at the same time

Or if you lift the router out of the table with the base place still bolted to the router you can move it easy to change out the bits...and preset the height of the bit..then just drop it back into the router table..

You finally hit on something - that would make me lean toward -getting a plate vs just mounting router to the table like I always have.

I have never had any problems changing bits with the router in place -- and reaching under the table to adjust depth is not that big a deal ---
But thinking about the way I like to work -- being able to set the depth with the router on its side rather than having to lean down and look across the table --
That has its appeal.

I was going to have to redrill my table for my new Craftsman ---
Thinking I may finally spring for a plate instead.
