I'm new to woodworking and for my first project I would like to build a router table. I have a drafting table that I would like to use. The drafting table has adjustable metal legs and could lie flat. The diamentions are: 36" wide x 48" long x 1" thick. I would like to put the router more to one side so I can make the other side a glue up station. My questions is, is the table to thin?

Should be just find

you are just going to hang about 15lbs.from the board..and at most the total would be 40 lbs with a project on it if that...if it makes you feel better you can glue some supports on the under side..like some 3/4' x 4" x 30" MDF but I would NOT use screws, just glue...

No, it is not too thin. 1" is great. I would suggest getting an insert plate since it would be a real bear trying to mount a router to something that thick.
I have the Rousseau plate in mine and bought the template for it.
