I want to make a "Norm" like router table. I want it to be mobie. I want to use nice casters like the ones Woodcraft sells. The rub: 1. Although I want to use casters, I don't want to see them. 2. Since I don't want to see them, I will put a skirt around the entire router table. Something attractive, but it will hide the casters. 3. Since I can't get at the casters, I need a system, device or something that will make my router table immobile. I don't want to have to get down on all fours, or anything like that. I really don't want much effort at all. I can't offer anything but praise for good ideas. You all seem clever and I hope to hear some ideas. Thanks Steve Bolton

HI Steve It would be a easy one to make, this is jist one of many ways.. 4 rods with rubber tips on the rods that would go do the inside of cabinet and lift the cabinet off the wheels with or cam on a grank or lever on the out side of the cabinet. I wiil stop at this point, if you want a drawing let me and I will post one how I would do it, but you will need a torch , but most of it can be made out of hardwood I think. ==========

I skirted mine but left the back side of the skirt open and that is where the locking castors are at. I did the same with my turning mobile cart. You could do the same and just hinge the back skirt I guess. Lift up the back skirt and lock them and be done. Corey

I have seen yours Corey and forgot about it. That would be just fine. Bob, I can't use a torch but have a friend who can. If you will draw the picture I would really like it. Then built both. Thanks Steve Bolton

Shopsmith sells a raising/lowering mechanism for their tool. You might be able to adapt it to your needs (a set is required). I often see them advertised on ebay. Just search on shopsmith. regards, Bob S

I found Shopsmith on Ebay, but I can't seem to find the raising/lowering mechanism for their tools. Do you know what it is called. sb

Try casters. Here is a link: http://cgi.ebay.com/Shopsmith-Caste...1QQcmdZViewItem The little star shaped wheel does the raising and lowering. I hope this was helpful. Bob S
