My router table

Hi,
It´s my first project: A router table HITACHI MV8SA+ROCKLER extra large plate an some basic stuff.
Im a beginner and only make some basic shapes an rings in MDF for audio car.







The top is made of DMF 160 mm, but the problem is that is not flat, could i fix it ??




My 3 bits, the second seems to be broken, can i use it ??

Hi,
Nice looking table.
If only the paint is chipped, the bit should be fine. However, if the bit itself is chipped as it appears then it's more of a paper weight than anything else. You may wish to replace with a new bit.

Chuck the bit and make a new top or just add a new top to the one you have now.

But it would be best off to just make a new top with 2ea. MDF stock.. you want it FLAT.

1- "chuck the bit"
2- "new top with 2ea"

1- "chuck the bit" = put in the trash can, put in file 13, use it for a tent stake, give it to a buddy you don't like, paint it white and use it for a door stop,..don't use..

2- "new top with 2ea" = make a new top with 3/4" MDF stock but this time use 2 boards of MDF stock...so it's flat this time..

One question abt. MDF top, if i dont glue a melamine top, some varnish, wax or similar treatment is needed ????

" similar treatment is needed " no it's not needed,,just put on 2 or 3 coats of Johnson floor wax after you have it done...it will be slick and smooth and you can add coats as time goes on unlike varnish or any thing else...they all get scratch over time and the wax will fill the scratchs up ,,,

The top below is about 4 to 5 years years old and still in good shape.

Another good solution is to glue a layer of plastic laminate on your table top. This tends to last very well, can be marked with a pencil and easily cleaned. ShopNotes has a plan that uses 3/4" plywood with two layers of 1/4" hardboard on top. This is wrapped with hardwood and then covered with laminate on top and bottom to prevent warping. You will find other ideas for tops by browsing the forums.

Remove your MDF top and examine the wood under it for flatness. Also check the table legs for flatness. Are the tops of the legs parallel. when you attached the MDF it may be taking the shape of the structure under it. You may ba able to fix the table.
