Default Flat router table

I bought a router plate from Rockler which is a "jessum" type. I have a nice straight edge. I have had problems leveling the plate in the rockler router table.

I put the straight edge on the blue plate and held a flash light on the other side. Wow!! I probably could have put a playing card where the light was shining.

How thick is a playing card.

I have had this product quite awhile and just noticed this. I assume there is no real fix, as the top appears to be aluminum. It is too late to return it.

Anyone else had this?

Steve, if the plate is warped I would take it to Rockler and ask for a replacement. There is no reason it should of warped. While it is probably still useable it isn't right. Any chance you might of over tightened the mounting screws to pull it out of shape?

Which mounting screws? There are eight set screws located around the perimeter of the plate to level it on the ledge. I dn't think that would have done it.

It is too late to take it back to Rockler.

I don't even know what to do with the thing.

Mike is talking about the screws you mounted the router to the plate with. Did you torque them real tight, or tight enough?

I thought I used reasonable torque. I hope I didn't over due it.

I think the product lacks quality.

I go by his words. If i found any defects like this, i will surely try to replace going to the shop. I have given the money and why should i have it having such defects. Also do not try like this as it may lead to any damage and in some cases it may get failured where you will have no option to change.

Hi Steve

It's not a big deal ,,,,now if it's off by 1/8" well yes I would say get a new plate.

We are talking about wood projects not making a space ship, many go over board about being flat...it takes two parts, the plate and the wood stock you pass over the bit, most wood stock is not that flat or true the norm.

The router table is a very forgiving device that's why they make sand paper..

And here I just completed my space ship plans on Google Sketch up. I got all the bugs worked out and now I am told this. In additon, I had invented a wood device that can turn water into very good gasoline but I need tight tolerances.

All joking aside, BJ, you mentionn 1/8 inch. I have a Lee Valley straight edge and yesterday I discovered a thing called feeler guages. It is interesting to put that straight edge on things and then figure out what is flat and what isn't.

BJ, what is flatter, a phenolic and MDF router table?

Thanks
