Hitachi 3/8" Keyless Chuck 6 Amp Drill

In the process of building "Baby Noddy" a swing set over the weekend, I ran into some issues with my cordless drills not being up to the job needed so in my 6 or maybe it was my 7th trip back to Lowe's for something else I forgot, I picked up a new Hitachi Drill. 3/8" keyless chuck, 6 amps of gogo. 108 inch lbs or torque.

Used it quite a bit and pretty happy with it. I've always been happy with all of Hitachi's tools that I've ever owned. Lowes had it on sale for 49 buck, with a free bit set (4 bits) inside. Comes in a nice hard / case.

The only thing it didn't come with was the "T" handle for additional support. These can be bought and are pretty universal, so if needed, I'll rob one off another tool if needed. (recommended for use with hole saws, larger bits, etc)

If you are looking for a solid, all around 3/8" drill motor, check this one out. It's worth a look at the 49 buck price. I compared it to the (similar) PC and Dewalt drills and found this one to be a better deal. (YMMV)

I have been down the road of cordless drills it's not the drill it's battery that they come with them..
The only one I have found that will stand up is the Dewalt 18 volt, I can't think of anything that can get you going more than when you use a cordless drill and use it just for a bit and the battery is dead...then you need to stop and go back to the shop and get one more or charge the one it came with..

It's true the Dewalt is not a 49.oo drill most are over 100.oo but the best will always cost more..


But that's just my 2 cents..

For something basic, I really like the one I got. My objective when buying was to stay under 100. Of course to get into a nice drill motor, you are easily looking at 125 / 150-ish price tag. I agree.

For something in the 3/8" chuck range, straight forward, won't break the bank, I figured the Hitachi was a good buy.

Like I said earlier as well, depending on your use, application, etc. YMMV.

Nooo!!!!!!

My life expentacy of H/F tools is 1.8 jobs.
Anything more than that, I've exceeded the price of ownership!

(I buy their 4" grinders by the case, use each with a different wheel (soft, hard, polish, etc.) and when they die, they go in the trash.) I use them for metal fab. stuff. Iv'e never had one last longer than a month or so.

I agree with you BJ I love the DeWalt 18 volt, it has not let me down. I charged the battery days ago and it's still doing heavy duty work.
