So my Father and Mother in-law are out here this week for Baby Noddy's birthday this weekend. I was poking around out in the garage and he was out there with me, and I was b*tching about the POS cordless drill(s) (See my thread on buying a corded 3/8" drill motor). I have two or three now, all of which are in need of either 1) throwing away completely, 2 & 3) new batteries. But for the price of new batteries for them, I'm 1/2 way there to a nice cordless drill.

Today, they came back from shopping, getting things ready for Baby N's birthday, etc, and he gives me a new cordless drill set. Woowhooo!!

RIDGID 18V 1/2" Cordless Drill Kit.
Lifetime warranty, including the batteries. You gotta love that! Pretty decent reviews from what I've read so far. Box contents: Drill, carrying case / duffel type bag, charger, and two 18V Li-Io batteries.

He says he has the same one, and has never had a problem with it.
It was quite unexpected, so I was / am pretty stoked about it.

With every tool, comes a new project.

I'll update the thread after a few uses with some more "review" material. Likes, dislikes, pros / cons.

My F-I-L always introduced me as "His wife's son-in-law".

I have the Ryobi 18V stuff and I see now that they have a 18V lithium battery that will work in them. My store didn't have the batteries by themselves yet. Anyone know how much the batteries cost on there own?

I do have the Ridgid 3/8 corded drill and it's a nice one. They have some nice stuff. My planer will probably be the Ridgid. Enjoy!

Thanks Scrollwolf! Not surprised at the price. I think I will just keep with the 39.99 2 battery packs, can't beat that price and throw them away when they won't hold a charge no more. Been going strong on the first set now for 2 years.

These 18V are overkill for general woodworking in my opinion. Great for remodel and home improvement stuff but A 12V is plenty for running in screws and predrilling holes and driving small woodscrews for woodworking projects. I would rather save the money for a small lithium driver like that little bosch.

Don't forget to send in the receipt and paperwork. The lifetime warranty doesn't take effect if you don't jump through the right hoops to get the tool registered.
