Default Craftwood/Just want to make sure.

I've been asked this question sometimes: Is that craftwood sold in Lowe's safe for food? I know of certain woods not to use and of course never use wood that's been treated but isn't craftwood just plain bare wood? I think so. Anyway, what do you think?

As a rule "craftwood" is basswood, very light weight and fine for what you are doing. Make sure you use an oil finish that is food rated such as salad bowl oil at Rockler.

jerrymayfield is an unknown quantity at this point

Any of the readily available finishes are food safe when fully cured. The salad bowl finish sold under that name by General Finishes is exactly their same formula for Danish Oil; i.e.
varnish, linseed oil and mineral spirits, check the msds on their site. How about shellack it is, or maybe was, the coating used on M & M candies.

regards
jerry

Oh yeah, most definitely, I'll use that salad bowl oil. Thanks Mike!
