Earlier this year a friend gave me an older craftsman table saw which after overhauling it is very solid and cuts great. I've been trying to figure out just how old this saw is. It's a 10 inch direct drive with cast iron wings but the interesting thing I noticed besides the fact that it's direct drive is that the blade tilt wheel is located on the left side of the saw instead of the right side like all the other craftsman table saws i've seen. The saw runs great and feels like a tank, no vibration and is very quiet. Just curious as to how old this thing is. I've done google searches on the model number but came up with nothing. Too lazy to go the garage to get the number and specs right now but I believe it's a 2 HP saw.

Now don't quote me on this but it sounds like my old model it was made late 80's early 90's. Yours is a step up from my old one mine had the tilt wheel on the left hand side also. Check and see if you can find the model number on it and call sears they can probably help you out if you need more info on your saw.

check out OWWM.com (old woodworking machines) they helped me identify a 1974 table saw I was given. If it is an old emerson electric machine, ridgid tools might even be kind enough to send you a copy of the owner's manual (they did for me!)

I don't want to harp on safety, but hopefully you have the guards, splitter, etc.

I have a sears flex-drive with the handle on the right side that is 25 years old,So yours has got to be older than that. I don't think they build them that good any more. Mine still cut on a dime and is still in tiptop shape,And I love it ,would not trade it for anything,

Thanks for the info guys. I love the saw and it's very accurate but the table size is a bit small. I'm thinking about upgrading to the Ridgid TS3650 ( I think that's the model number).

Hello ryan,

I have the TS3650 and it is a nice saw. I also have 2 old Craftsman table saws that I do not use. The 10" Craftsman was given to me and I hope one day to set it up with a dado blade when I have time to clean it up.

There's an idea, why didn't I think of that? I wasn't sure what I was gonna do with the craftsman but since you mentioned it it would make a perfect second saw dedicated for a dado setup. Thanks Goonman! I'm glad to hear you like the Ridgid Ts3650. I've narrowed it down to that particular saw in terms of value and performance. Now all I need to do is buy the new saw. Thanks!

One other thing to add. I also looked long and hard like you have before buying the TS. And I almost bought one of the Grizzlie table saws but I was not able to lay eyes on it in person like I was able to look at the TS.
