Question Japanese Carving Tools

Gday
In about 3 years time will be starting work on our strawbale cottage..Im building the kitchen cupboards and basically all other woodwork that I can prior to erection to save time and money..and well becuase I just want to as well lol. Anyhoo...I figure that in the evening I might start hand carving handles for the cupboards and various other similar necessities. I have a couple of basic hand carving tools and I have been promised funding (thanks to a generous wife) for a really good set of Japanese hand carving tools for Christmas this year. A quicj inpsection through google confirms that they are of course pricey, but there are more brands than I originally thought. Does anyone have any experience with these type of tools and feedback on which are better bang for the buck??....planning to find some nice ebony for the handles etc. One of my best friends is a strawbale builder....you can see some of his work here
http://www.glassford.com.au ...I have helped him on a few projects its very very different to traditional process as you could imagine...lots of mud to play in lol.
