Default Need A Few Idea's......

I cut some stock awhile back for some small boxes and forgot about them. Tonight I mitered all the corners and ran the grooves for the bottoms and lid panels. These would be small ring boxes about 3 x 5 x 2 1/2 high. They will have about 2 inch x 4 1/4 inches of space inside.

What I need ideas for is how to make a the interior into a fabric covered ring holder. I want to have 1 slot down the middle of the length of the box, covered in velvetine and you push the ring into the crack. Any ideas on what to use and how to finish out the interior. Some kind of foam I expect would work well but don't know where to get it or what to use.

Thanks ....

Corey

Hi Corey

Here's just one way, look around the shop for a box that a tool came in, and pull out some white packing (foam packing) I use a old 12" hack saw blade to cut it, after I take it to the grinder and put a nice sharp edge on it and a wooden handel with a bit of elec. tape to hold the handle on. (spit the hardwood handle on the band saw then just slip it in and tape it up)

Then use the seal-a-meal ,once you have it cut to size and the fabric on it.lift the bag off with care and glue it to the foam (3M #77 spay glue works well for this job)

Just a note *** you can also use your Vac.cleaner to suck it down in the bag if you don't have a seal-a-meal
Or just press it in place with care without the glue on the back side of the fabric.
I have done one or two silverware drawers this way and it works, just don't rush it and don't pull to hard on the fabric it wil show, nice and slow on this one.

Corey, if you can't find a source for foam in the yellow pages try your local craft stores. They are bound to have it. Another option is a camera store since they use it in cases. I know here we have a foam factory outlet that has all types and amounts for reasonable cost.
I agree with BJ that the #77 spray adhesive is a great product. If you want a non-aerosol glue your local craft store will have "Tacky Glue" and it works well for many applications.

Thanks guys I appreciate it. I will need to mess around and see what works. I am going to check my craft store... never thought about the place I buy my velvetine material and using some foam.

Thanks!
