Question Router Tables

Curious if I could get some ideas about the pros and cons about the layout of different router table configurations.

For example : Insert plate located in the center of the table vs the insert plate located off center closer to the table top edge.

-and/or-

Different sizes of table top recommended.

Thanks, this is my first and have high expectations

I am starting one like Bob and Ricks. But I plan to make it a bit wider both front to back and left to right. No special reason other than i have room for it and i can cut it down if i don't like it. The extra length allows a longer jointer fence to be used.

Mine is rectangular and the insert is in the middle of the table and I like it like that. No particular reason why either!! My table size is 700mm wide by 500mm deep. Seems to be big enough to me.

Hope this helps,
Aaron

Solid suggestion, I forgot about the Jointer option in considering a more compact functional table. I have the jointer on a larger table - but, it takes up too much room. Thanks again
