| Registered User Supreme Forum King | Well... I did it. I bought a new 11" band saw. The little bench top saw just wasn't big enough for re-sawing. The only problem is the new saw makes very rough cuts compared to the little saw. The only reason I can think of is maybe the blade. Anybody have any suggestions?

| Registered User Supreme Forum King | Yeah Dave, it has an 11" throat and will cut up to 6" thick stock.

| Forum Contributer Supreme Forum King | What size motor does it have George? My band-saw is 14" with a 3/4hp motor and it really struggles re-sawing 5" softwood using a 6tpi blade.

| Registered User Supreme Forum King | Hi Harry. It's a ShopSmith band saw so it runs off my 1.5 hp ShopSmith adjustable speed table saw motor. It handles blades from 1/16" up to 5/8". The 5/8" has 3 tpi and would be used for re-sawing and straight cuts only. I did some tweaking on the block adjustments and tried different feed rates and that seemed to help some on the cuts. It came with the 1/4" blade so I ordered a set of cool blocks, a 1/16" (has to have cool blocks) and a 5/8" blade. It will probably cut better with a different blade and the cool blocks.

| Forum Contributer Supreme Forum King | George, I thought that my BS was underpowered, one day if I come across a cheap motor, that's low cost, there really is a difference! I will change it. Regarding the blade, I'm having difficulty obtaining a blade with less than 6tpi but I shall keep trying.

| Forum Contributer Supreme Forum King | Hi George At one time I had a SS with the band saw setup and they work great once you replace the Spring that keeps the blade tension right, the Fac. one is a bit weak but you can find one one by using the web site for ShopSmith Tools Forum plus many tips for the SS ...like How-To-Resaw on the SS band saw. ![]() http://www.shopsmith.net/forums/ http://www.ssug.org/ I just saw that you are a member curiousgeorge curiousgeorge is offline Bronze Member ![]() Bj ![]()

| Registered User Supreme Forum King | Thanks Bj. Harry, try Googling for Timber Wolf bandsaw blades. I don't know what length blade you need, but Woodcraft ( www.woodcraft.com) has them in the 72" X 1/2" with 3 & 4 TPI. They aren't cheap but I have heard that Timber Wolf is one of the best.
