Default Ladies and Gentleman - it's RRRolling (TS Tenoning jig)

Good day

I had it long time in my head and today I did it (after drilling 400mm walls for vents installation).

For the center part I used two 1-9/16" counter top boards (chipboard covered with Formica) and for the sides 18mm plywood covered with Formica (everything from left-overs).

As Vertical rollers I used iron rollers (just found them in the drawer) but if you are planning to roll it on the table, use the plastic ones.

If you are going to make it, may I advise that, first, cut only ONE center part (this 1-9/16" chipboard).
I cut it to 1/8" wider than required and then, trimmed it, 1/32" at a time, till I got the Horizontal rollers almost fit without turning the "Bolts".
Then, without changing the rip fence position cut the second 1-9/16" board to get 100% fit with the first one.

The travel, is limited by your fence length (maybe I'll make longer fence).

It's rolling nicely without any side play and the test results (on the pics) were excellent...now I have to find some project...

And the rest is on the pictures

Regards
niki

Thank you all for your kind words

Now I'm thinking how and what I can do with it on the router table...

Well Niki, I'm sure you would prefer me to be honest at all times with my remarks, whilst you have, as always done a first class job of design and construction. I feel that it is over-engineered, especially when one considers that there must be more jigs for making tenons than for any other purpose, I do however look forward with interest for you're method of making the matching mortices! The triangle idea for splines is very good and I intend to make several different size triangles. I hope that we are still mates.

Hi Harry

The good thing between mates is that one can tell the other straight in his face (or as you defined it more moderately, "to be honest") and still remain mates. At list that's the way that I see it.

You are correct that there are a few ways to make tenons, some on the router table, some with hand held router and the work held in a "tenoning jig" and of course, on the table saw.

Till now, I was making the tenons on the TS with a sled (that looks more like miter gauge) and cutting 3 mm (1/8") on each pass. It took time but I got perfect results.

I've seen this jig on the Internet, books and even commercially. Some of them use the Miter slot and some, the fence as a guide.

I decided to use the fence as a guide because it's wider and more stable than the miter slot.
I was just looking for something that will slide better and that's what I came with.

Maybe it's over-engineered but it took me some 5~6 hours to build from scratch and test it.
The material cost was very low.

Now, I'm trying to think what I can do with it on the (new) router table...

Anyway, as they say, "There are many ways to strip a cat" and that's my way...nobody said that one have to agree with it, like I don't agree to other's methods of doing things...

Cheers mate
Best regards
niki
