Jeff, you can joint edges on a router table but you can't flatten a face. If I had the choice I would have a jointer, but no room as it stands now.

Change of plan..I was looking at the grizzly G0586 and they have it on sale. I could also take a road trip and it would be cheaper than shipping. Now it's a 8" jointer

Any goods bads or ugly about the grizzly?

Grizzly's have a good reputation as well and they have good customer service from what I have heard. If you pick it up... you can avoid the "shipping problems" that some time occur.

I have a jet 708458k 8" jointer and have been very happy with it . I never used any other jointer so I can't compare with no point of reference. Good luck, I use it a lot more than I thought I would.

I used to own the GI 6" and now I have the Grizzly G0586. The GI performed very well and it did exactly what it was supposed to do. But as the saying goes "bigger is better" so I moved up to the 8" with spiral cutterhead. A big step up and although I've had the Grizzly for only 1 month I'm really pleased with it.
