Default Simple plunge depth settings

I love my brass setup bars for helping set up bit heights, fence offsets and the like, but there are often times I need a setting that I don't have. For all those times, nothing works better than an allen wrench set. Just zero out your bit, then slip the allen wrench under the pole stop. Your next plunge will be to that exact depth.

A big set of metric or SAE allen wrenches is cheap, and they are quite accurate for setting up all those little tiny measurements you might need. If your eyes aren't what they used to be, they make accurate measurements without having to squint at a scale. They are easier to use than feeler gages in my opinion.

If your tools are like mine, you need a bunch of them anyway for adjusting your power tools, so why not make them do double duty.

Just a thought,

Hi Doug

That's a good tip,,,,

Here's just one more ( Drill Bits ) work well for this job also but you must use care they are tool steel like the Allen hex keys you can't bang them up to the router bits just a light touch,,,

Hey Doug ,did you have time to view the DVD's ?

And talking about ideas, here is another one that I use

Takes 30 seconds to 1 minute to modify the caliper and it covers all the "Spectrum"

I just crank the bit up till I get my reading and "Yallah" (Arabic for "let's go")

Checking 8 mm drill bit

...And, it's not limited to the router only

BJ,

I just checked to see that they would play, and they are waiting in my disk case for August when I head back to sea.

Thanks,

Doug

How long you going to be at sea this time Doug? Will you have access to the internet?

I'll probably be gone about 60 days this time, and I should be able to access the internet once a week or so. I can usually email most any time via Satellite, but can't access the net unless in range of Verizon Cellular internet service (pretty much only in port).

Hi simplenik

I made one like yours in a way for my Hroz.Router that works about the same, you may want to take a look it just for kicks it works off the brass setup bars or the drill bit(s)... and I also use it for the table saw....now and then...

Hi BJ

Very nice idea

Long time ago, I made this height gauge that is now lying on the shelf...

Oh, great horizontal router, it is my dream...maybe one day...

Bj.,i know that you have very efficient dust collection in you're shed, but this does not explain why I have NEVER seen a single speck of sawdust in any of you're increasing number of photographs. Please let me into you're secret, I promise not to tell anyone!

Hi Harry

I don't like to walk on it (chips & saw dust) or have it all over the equipment so I keep it clean all the time plus it gives me time to thing about what I want to do next on a project,,,it helps me work out all the deal tails,,,,I know it's a bad way to do it but it's like measure twice thing and then make the cut.... and I do cache errors this way b/4 I make them...
I think I spend as much time cleaning as I do making the project...if not more
