Default Hmmm... my next workbench?

I just found some bowling alley sections.
They're 11 feet long, 42 inches wide, and 2 and a half inches thick. I'm guessing this would make a pretty good workbench top.

Whatcha think? I can get an 11 foot slab for about $150

edit: just realized I should qualify this a little.... I'd pay $150 for an 11 foot bowling alley slab *IF* it's from the first 12 feet of the lane. Most wooden lanes I've seen are only maple for the first 12 feet. After that they're pine.

Would there be a chance of worn grooves & dents in the surface?

If so, you'd have to resurface the top.

Would there be a huge amount of nails, etc. in it?

Sounds like it may be worth trying...

I wish I could get some but shipping would kill it for me I'm sure...

Bah.... all he's got left are the pine slabs. I'm not paying $150 for a pine slab.

My wife and I bought a butcher top dinning room table when we first got married. It's 7'x 4' x 2". I told my wife it's time to retire the dinning table so I can make a workbench out of it. She wants me to refinish an antique table before she'll let me have it. Not sure I'll get that done before the holiday.

Grizzly’s shipping charges are outrageous and unrealistic that’s why I never do business with them.
If you can find it locally, it’s a lot less for tax than what they charge for shipping.
$74 shipping charge on 129-dollar Item?

Hi Router

I must disagree with you on that one,,, mass it mass and truck freight is truck freight, they have no control what the freight haulers charge now that they can charge a sir charge on thop on that. ... I have found that most of the time Grizzly is quite fair on shipping charges.
