| Registered User Forum Fanatic  |  Blistering Hot Bearing Hi Folks - After running with no load for 15 - 20 SECONDS!, my brand new router gets so hot at the collet-end bearing you can't touch it. The manufacturer's customer service department tells me that this is normal and is no problem. I just can't accept that. I have had four other routers (all stolen or given away) and I don't recall that they got very hot. Does anyone here know for sure whether or not this should be considered a problem? Your thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Roefa |

If the MFG says that is normal a) their full of *____, b) your response to them should be "then they all need to be fixed, and you can start by fixing mine". This is unless of course you are talking about Harbour Freight (or the like) being the MFG. If you have something like PC, Hitachi, Bosch, Dewalt, Makita, etc. then something is wrong, and I (personally) wouldn't use it. The shaft is spinning at 20,000 RPM. That bearing is either crushed, or within a tolerance that isn't right. Hence the heat build up. Keep running it, and something will break.
