| Forum Contributer Supreme Forum King | It isn't often that I disagree with Bj, but on the question of a dead man's switch I have to side with Roger, whilst I'm not an expert on table saws, I have used them for more years than I can remember and like Roger I position myself to be comfortable as the cut progresses, which could mean several changes of feet position. At many wood shows here in Australia I have touched and drooled over the Jet range of saw tables, I'm sure Router that you are going to be very happy with you're purchase and I know that Bj and I will remain good friends.

| Registered User Sr. Member | Just a thought but what about a large "Mushroom" switch mounted where it can be hand or knee operated. Pull to enable the machine on off switch but it would be easy to operate with out fumbling just push it in to cut power. Something along these lines: http://ecatalog.squared.com/huggy_pdf/en/SD/1548.pdf Kristin PS- I can still count to 20 if I take off my shoes! |

I know my Bud Bj means well, My gallery doesn’t even cover the half of it. Few months a go while I was cleaning up in the shop using my shop vac, somehow I vacuumed a cigarette butt, well I have a bad sense of smell and I couldn’t smell things burning inside vacuum cleaner with all that router dust and things until it was too late and there was fire and smoke. I’ll just leave it at that. Before that, friend of mine was asking me why I take a trip to the store and pay for just a piece of lumber when they have so much of it around here due to construction and they just give it away when they clean up. I told him I have my reasons. So the next day or so I needed a short 2x4 and I said what the heck, I went around a block and ask the construction guys if I could have a scrap and they said help yourself, while I was walking across the construction site, I stepped on a nail rusty and I fell face down in the mud, it had been raining also, then my shore got stuck in the mud and I slipped again and by the time I made it to the car I was drenched in mud and my wife’s car got all dirty and had to go and get a tetanus shot. ![]()

Yes, I agree with you... If you look at the larger picture of it, that switch has a nice, easy to get to, OFF paddle to just HIT when you want it off. David Marks has a long paddle where he can just lift a knee... Definitely, NOT a floor switch... you must be able to move around, when you have to. Your Jet Table saw If the paddle is too small, just make a bigger one... Looks like it should be able to be moved where you like it... Nice saw! Be careful! Be SAFE!

| Marine Engineer Forum King | The lathe we use at work (old south bend metal lathe) has been modified with a knee bar that works to stop the lathe anywhere along the entire length of the lathe. If I remember, I'll take a picture of it. (((( I will admit, some folks says it works too well, because if you're not careful, you can stop the lathe quite easily by accident)))) Basically, you could make sort of the same set-up using your jet saw by sliding your start/stop switch a little closer to the center, and then hang a piece of 1 inch dowel rod from the ends of your fence tube. bump the rod, it hits the paddle, your saw is off. If I remember, I'll try to get a picture up next week.

| Senior Moderator Supreme Forum King | There is no wrong way to be safe. A dead mans switch or an easy to access oversized stop button both work, and you should use which ever is easiest for you. Let me make a point here: if you are controlling your wood with both hands and have a danger situation develope you might need to be able to hit the off switch with your knee or foot. Most switches can be equiped with a long paddle to allow for this, and I think this is a better idea than a mushroom button. We want everyone to be safe so whatever it takes is the best answer to this question.
