As we enjoy the use of our power tools we need to remember that vibration, over time will loosen the adjustments and settings. A regular schedule of cleaning and checking the adjustments keeps us going safely and with the best results. Most people know about thread locking compounds like Loctite. What you may not know is it comes in 2 formulas. The general formula is to stop vibration from loosening a fastener, it can be overcome using a tool to loosen and remove the fastener. It needs to be cleaned off and then reapplied when the adjustment is set. The other formula is one that requires a solvent to remove it.
For most of us there is a better solution to the vibration problem. It's called Vibratite. This product is painted onto the threads and allowed to dry a bit before installing the fastener. Once the adjustment is made you allow it to sit overnight to cure. Your fastener is locked in place. Here comes the neat part of this product. Down the road you need to make an adjustment, you simply adjust the fastener, allow it to sit overnight and you are locked again! I use this on my tablesaw's. I have used it over the years on many industrial machines and think it is one item every woodworker should know about.

Where do you buy this? Is this the blue stuff I see on some parts?

Loctite actually comes in 3 formulas. Green is temporary (it holds but can be removed with a bit of effort), Blue is semi permanent (not for easy removal), and red should read "do you ever want to get this apart again?".

If the nut, bolt, or screw came out pretty hard, YUP!

Ed, I purchase mine from Motor City Fastener here in Hazel Park, MI. I know Stanley Industries sells it here as well. I'm sure there will be a local source for you.
Vibra-tite by ND Industries is bright red, almost pink in color. A 30cc bottle runs around $19.
