| Registered User Forum Fanatic | Hi all, looking for a better way to tame the dust, chip, shavings my drill press. I use anything from simple drill bits to drum sanders to Forster bits......etc. I tried the setup in the attached photo but found it pretty much useless. any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. ![]()

I really like that set up. The only thing I did different than you was to attach the hose at the drill press with a clamp from a outdoor light. I clamp it to the drill press post and then just angle it down by the bit - it collects about 90% of the waste being produced.

| Registered User Forum Fanatic | Yep, its the Ridgid kit all right, I'm pretty pleased with it so far. I'm using a 1hp dust collection system from princess auto (early xmas present) with it, much quieter than my shop vac. As for the drill press, I'll fool around with your suggestion and see what I come up with, thanks.

| Forum Contributer Supreme Forum King | Hi jer760 You may want to give this a shot,,see the white peg board on the wall,,,do you have some more around if so ,make a box frame about 3" tall/deep for your sub base that you now have on the drill press,,,cut some white peg board to fit the frame, make it so it sides in a slot/rabbit in the frame,,(for quick cean out) , now drill the holes out to 1/2" (with a hole saw, from both sides, most use a 1/4" drill bit, this will take the guess work out of lining up the drill for new hole sizel) then put in a hose pickup on the back side, slip the hose on and you have just made a vac plate for your drill press that you can use for many jobs...i.e. drilling ,sanding, etc.besure to put in some rib supports in the frame box, you want to make it flat and strong.. ============ Quote:

| Registered User Sr. Member | I have a question redarding the Ridgid Dust Collection System - Does it work?? Would it be OK say for a belt sander, band saw. miter saw, and maybe a table saw. Will it handle a vaccum larger than a shop vac ie: Jet Dust Devil. Thank you Angus |

I have the system hooked to a 6 gallon Ridgid vacuum. I have the system hooked to 2 - scroll saws, band saw, sander, table saw and drill press. Each has its own blast gate to close off when that machine is not in use. I had it hooked to a 1 HP Grizzle vacuum system and worked very well with that, until it was dedicated to my router table. ![]() Dang it BJ - now there is another system I am going to have to try, but that would work just great as I already have the vacuum hose there. ![]()

| Forum Contributer Supreme Forum King | You'er Welcome jer760 You did a great job on the vac box ![]() I made one along time ago and it works great to keep the shop clean and the drill table surface clean with just a little sweep of the hand and it's down the tube so to speak ![]() It also works well when you need to do a bit of sanding, many of the new type hand sanders come with a vac pickup/bag on them but they still make a mess..... ======== Quote:
