Default Save your cash

Well, I ordered this back in early December.

http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/cta...emnumber=95998

One thing about harborfreight is they will never tell you if item is on back order until you have placed the order and the card has been charged.
Any way, I finally got this in the mail today. And it’s another embarrassing Chinese made junk.
It can’t be zeroed the numbers are all over the place. It uses 3 batteries.
Might as well guess at the angle then use this crap.

Sorry you got taken. I would definitely have them make it right. I tried their version of the Bessey clamps. Took them back the very next day. I couldn't get one of them to tighten.

Newwoodworker.com has never given any tool a bad review in all the years I’ve been reading that forum. With the exception of HF nail gun, which he ended up taking a sledgehammer to it.

Yeah, some stuff are diamonds in the rough with HF and others are just in the rough. Got to pick and choose.

Hi Router,
This is why I don't purchase very much from HF. Granted, they do have some "bargains". When I purchased my DC unit from them, I was very hesitant and asked here on the forums for thoughts. I'm like you and have been burned from them in the past. It was a lesson learned and I've moved on.

Here are some personal observations about HF. Their die grinders and air drills are superior to the quality of many name brands and yet the framing nailers do not seem to stand up. The wooden rocking adirondack chair kit ai bought for my wife was a super deal and some of the electronics are inexcuseable. You have to wade through the good and bad.

I have bought a number of things from HF and for the most part (and the price) they have worked great. For instance their oscillating spindle sander ($120) is a great tool. You just have to keep in mind that, mostly, you get what you pay for and be choosy about what you buy. It is best, if possible, to go to the store in person. That way you can evaluate the tool before purchasing.

I also ordered a couple of those digital angle guages from Harbor Freight. They also were back ordered, and I recieved one last thursday and one on Friday. The first one worked ok,, although not quite as nicely as the Wixey unit I have, but it worked. The one I got on friday did not work at all,, I replaced the 3 batteries, thinking maybe they were dead, but it still did not do a thing,, so I called Harbor Frieght and they are sending me a shipping lable to return it. So at least they DO stand behind what they sell,,, All in all, I think I would stick with the Wixey angle guage though, It does seem to work better.

The battery in my Wixey went bad and I found it to be the same battery that my digital calpers take,, last time I needed one of them, I went to Kmarts and bought one in their watch dept. it cost me a few bucks,,, so this time I looked on EBAY and was able to buy 20 of them for just $2.06. with shipping the total cost was just a few cents over $5 for the 20 of them. So just because it has button cells, dont shy away from the item, thinking it will cost ya too much for batteries in the future. I also needed the smaller button cells ( Which the Cheaper digital calipers use ) and bought 100 for about $14 total.
And Mike,.. as far as the bells and wistles go,,, a piece of charcoal and a flat stone would actually work for all your writing needs,, but I bet ya have up graded to pencil and paper,,, or mabye even a computer now ???? hahahah,, a few bells and whistles in life is a good thing,, as long as ya dont have to bust the bank to get em.

And George, WoodCraft had the wixey digital thickness guage on sale for $44,, so I figured I probably would not see it any cheaper then that,, ,so I ran out and got one,, and Yes, I think it will work great on the planer.
