Hi Trap

The kit I got came with two pulleys one was 1" diam. with a 1/2" hole to fit the 1/3HP motor and the other one was a 2" diam.with a 5/8" hole to fit the sanding drum, they suggested that I use a 1750rpm motor BUT I move it up just a bit with a 1/2 HP motor but I could not find a 1" pulley to fit the 5/8" shaft on the motor so I used a 2" one, I know it would pull some of the power away from the drum but it worked ok...
I guess you could get a 3450 rpm motor and get the higher speed,,I got my motor from Grizzly..at a so so price 124.oo bucks if I recall..I wanted to use a total enclosed motor unlike the one they suggested (washing machine type motor) saw dust thing for me...I knew it would not last to long with all the saw dust filling the motor up with saw dust...

=======

bobj3,
I knew that you would come through with the info. My sander cam from Nick and took two weeks, but it was $197.00 with free shipping. The other place wanted 225.00

Sask Jack is on a distinguished road

I got my kit from Stock room supply and it said to put the 2" pulley on the 1/3 hp motor and the 1-3/4" pulley on the drum shaft. I realize that I am 3 weeks late with this but I have been busy, I recieved a lot of very good advice which I have ignored and I have been sanding down kitchen cabinet doors etc. The drum sander is most valuable but not the complete answer. An air operated body shop, flat board sander takes over where the drum sander leaves off. The doors are looking great and now I am teaching my self to spray paint urathane.--Jack
