Old Table Saw Up-grade -- I think

Hello,

I've decide to upgrade Dad's 1950's vintage 10" Powr Kraft (Monkey Wards) table saw with a newer motor. The orginal motor was a 3475-rpm, 110v, 1-hp unit which has excessive start-up current draw. Due to the death of an air compressor (tank rust penetration), I have an available 3-hp, 220v, 3475-rpm motor (1990's vintage) that has seen very little use. While I have little doubt that a 1950's nameplate rating is a lot more honest than a 1990's nameplate rating, I anticipate a significant power increase with the new motor.

So, that all sounds great. More power using a salvaged motor and no more trips to reset the breaker box. However, am I creating a monster? Is 3-hp too much for a 10" TS? If so, what are the safety issues?

I would appreciate your thoughts?

I'm wondering if the trunion will stand up to the increased hp. Is it cabinet mounted or attached directly to the top? Otherwise, I don't see why it wouldn't work.

I gues you would call it a hybrid saw, the motor swings/tilts with saw blade and hangs outside of the cabinet. However, the motor mount and and blade carraige (trunion?) are cast iron. It is definitely a product of a previous day when standards were higher.
