Default cleaning bags on new DC?

I feel like a big newb for even asking this, but I just got a Delta 50-760 DC from Rockler (20% off sale at the Atlanta store!) and the manual says nothing about changing or cleaning the dust bag. It's the 1 micron bag.

I'm sure this thing isn't meant to run indefinitely without maintenance. Is there a way to clean these bags out? do you have to replace them?

I've tried googling it, I've searched the delta site, nobody mentions maintaining these bags.

Hi rprice54

Not sure what others do but this is what I do for maintenance..
When the bottom bag is full I take off the top bag and turn it inside out and take it outside the shop and blow it out with the air hose...

I was told along time ago that I should not wash it out in the washing machine

It's about 5 years old now and it's still in good shape but I'm sure some day I will need to replace it...

as always, a wealth of info BobJ... thanks.

I found some stuff over at the WOOD boards, some guys mentioned that by design, some of the entrapped particles are used to catch other particles and make up some of the filtration media, and that as layers build up, a gentle tap of the bag helps them settle into the lower container- ?maybe?

I also found that most people tend to vacuum out or shake out their filters once or twice a year. I'm glad to hear yours has lasted as long, I was hoping I didn't have to buy new bags every year.

I also found a basically unused circuit in my basement I can use for the DC. Now I'm off to install some 3 way switches around the shop- cheaper than a remote.

Hi rp

I have to agree with Bj. Blow it out once in awhile or shake it down. To add to what Bob said about washing it... if you do, never use that machine for anything else. The residue will forever remain in the washer.

I had my bag approx. 21/2 year and during that period I did vaccum it and wash it 3-4 times. I was told at the time of purchase this would not hurt the bag...... Now!

I have just purchased a hard filter for my unit to replace the bag, I was finding larger than normal dust escaping through the bag..... so did the washing cause it I'm not sure... I will not recommend washing it to others.

Just my costly experience!
