I've just started getting back into woodworking after a layoff of way too many years and I have a question for those of you who have been active for a while. What do you use to clean the protective coating off of new router bits or saw blades? I've purchase numerous bits and a few blades lately that came with this plastic like coating on them, and I have no idea how to address the issue. Any help would be appreciated.

i have too recently asked this same type of question. what i did was just peel it off. or you could also get a knife and make a small cut in it then it should peel right off. i have also heard that you can run it through some scrap wood and the friction of everything will take it right off. but i did the cut and peel option and it worked just fine

Hi Billzhere:
I usually just cut it with a utility knife and it peels right off. The put some oil lubricant
on the blades and bits, and then the plastic stuff, so it peels real easy. Try not to hit
the carbide cutting edges with the knie though, it's not good for them..
