| Registered User Dedicated Member  |  Jointer/planer troubles I am having trouble with planing stock either on the edge or with the stock laying flat. It seems that I am getting a cupping at the end of the cut. It starts out ok on the outfeed table but at the end the blades cup the stock about 1 inch from the end. Help!!!  g-man |

| Registered User | I would think that maybe your outfeed table is set too low or not totally flat. I think first you need to check the parraellism of both your tables with a long straight edge. When the infeed table is at O(highest postion,no cutting). You need to leave the long straight edge on the table and check that both tables are perfectly flat. Also while doing this, that the cutter blades when you rotate the cutter head(very carefully) just barely tick the straight edge with the top of the blades(all the blades). If all do not touch you need to adjust the blades so that they are all the same height. Maybe this will help. David |

| Registered User Forum Fanatic  | g-man you are getting 'snipe' which you get if the cutter blades aren't exactly level with the outfield table. Setting the blades perfectly level takes a little time but will stop this snipe on the jointer. Snipe from a thicknesser is normal because the infeed rollers no longer hold the timber as it passes the cutter blades. Buy ready planed timber from a timber yard and you will always lose a fair bit because of the snipe. I reckon on needing every length 6" longer than the work needs just to cut the snipe off.
