I suppose because I use the router for 90% of the time with the aid of guides I would have to go for the plunge mode.

My first router was a fixed base (Purchased by the school I was teaching in at the time) But since finding out the need for the guides I have and give advice to anyone purchasing a router to get a Plunge router

I have 3 Makitas Three Hitachi and one Triton (for use in the bench) plus a trimmer Makita.

I have all types, Fixed,Plunge and Interchangeable. They all have their place in the Shop for different Applications. The Brands I have : 4 Bosch, 1Hitachi, 1 Makita, 2 Craftsman, 1 DeWalt, 1PC. The ones I like best, in order the big Bosch, the Hitachi, the PC.
Those 3 are mounted in individual Tables ( Oak Park, Veritas, Hawk ) For Handheld use I like the Bosch 1617 EVS
Happy Routing

for my work the plunge router is my choise, having to make different internal cuts, like window openings, door openings ,etc. using spiral cutting bit is faster than cutting with a jigsaw, just plunge and go.
