Hmmm.... 'puters, eh? 2 generic desktops, one a 1.6gh intel with 1 gig, 128 meg video, 60g hd, dvd rom, and cd burner. The other is a 1.2amd, 512mb ram, 160 hd, dvd burner, 64 mb video. An Averatec laptop, (DON"T EVER buy one of these pieces of crap!!) with a 3 gig intel processor, 60 gig hd, useless 2x dvd burner. Acer laptop with a 1.6 dual core amd, 1 gig, 120gig hd, multi function dvd burner.

The Acer sees the most use right now.

Also got a boatload of old, useless, computer parts from the last 20 years or so.

Brian

WOW! With all the 'puters you guys have, when do you have time for woodworking? I don't even understand what all that computereze talk is about. I bought my second computer in 1994. the one i'm using right now. Just had it upgraded to 1 gig. That's about as much as I know about it. It's a Dell.

I never updated this thread in March 2006 when I replaced my computers. I got tired of always having an average of 6 cases stacked in the living room and broomed them all. My desktop is less cluttered with just one Sony VAIO TV/PC. This is a wide screen 17" monitor with the computer built on the back. I do not use the wireless keyboard and mouse, I use a GrandTec silicone keyboard and my old favorite Microsoft Internet Explorer mouse.(I can't live without my forward and backwards mouse buttons!) This computer makes it a breeze to record and burn shows like the NYW or movies. While this unit retailed for just shy of $2000 I worked a nice deal with a multiple computer purchase and it cost me $840. There is also the bonus that I am no longer stepping on case screws in my bare feet. For people who like specs here is a page off the internet showing the goodies.

I use a mac, right now a PowerPC 17 in Powerbook. It will be replaced this summer by a MacBook Pro. I switched to Mac about 19 years ago when the dominant operating system was MS DOS, and it was impossible to include both a graphic and text in the same document. I have been a fierce advocate of Mac ever since. If you want to use the computer, get a Mac; if you want to screw around with it trying to make it do what you need to do, get a Wintel. Of Course, web page design has nearly leveled the playing field. Now with the Intel Macs, parallels or VMware can allow one to use Windows software in its own window, and freely copy between the Mac windows and the Windows window.

I have two computers one old Gateway desktop, which is what I use at home, and an Alienware laptop that I bought for my son. I have it back because it doesn't work. The graphic card burned out, and I haven't had the time or the money to send it back to get it fixed. I tried a local computer repair place, but they could not get the part. So the laptop has become a $2500 door stop.
